Site History

So here it is, the history of sites leading up to none other than http://dance-electric.net. And no, it didnt start with a Piczo site...

It all started in Grade Four. My dad finally got us a computer, it came with some webspace, and I got to post my own website! Of course, being ten, and a total n00b, it was worse than Piczo. The site was made 100% on MS FrontPage, and it mostly contained links to other sites, and random pages of mp3's! Pretty pathetic.

When we moved away from Whitby, to where I live now, I discovered Piczo. Everyone in our school had it, even my good friend Niki. I got one too, because Piczo was mad sweet yo! The unorganized collages of photos, the horrible glitter backgrounds, the marquee text...oh god. Looking back, the thought of what I created scares me! Eventually i got more organized, with a theme for most pages, and a position-to-the-pixel navigation system.

Eventually I started learning HTML, (thank you myspace) and I left Piczo. I started designing layouts, making whore codes, hiding and fixing things, customizing until 10:00 at night, when i'd get yelled at to get off the computer. I eventually moved to Freewebs, which I hated because it was confusing and I couldn't move anything around.

Soon after I started high school, and Niki told me that she had been hosted over the summer by Hannah! I was like :O :O! (And yes, I did just say that.) I looked into it, and applied for her as well. Naturally, having no website besides Myspace, I was rejected. I came to the conclusion that I should make a website, and school her up. Lol. That didnt quite work - I made one on Notepad, and was looking for some free-automatic-hosting, when I remembered a host I had used to try and scam n00bz on Habbo. BAHA. Habbo. Oh man. Anyway, I applied and uploaded my three-page website Taintedphotography, which is still open today.

Oh man, it was bad. The layout was not all that great and had some of my photography of the Famed fish. It was mainly for my photography, and was down right s#@%ty. I showed Hannah though, and surprisingly, she liked it!

I was then in. I had done it. I was an accomplished webmaster. I then discovered that most people used a blog for updates and whatnot, and that they had really cool layouts and content for people. I was making emoticons, and layouts with some success, and I loved it. I had a few affies, and it was going well. Eventually though, I got bored and decided I needed something better. I wanted Wordpress.

I tried installing it, but I couldn't figure out how to do the mySQL. By that time, Niki had bought Superush and was nice enough to host me until i got my own domain. That made me quite the happy camper - I was working with a whole new toolbox! But it was difficult, so I gave up for a while, convinced that Wordpress sucked (when it clearly doesn't) and went back to Tainted.freehostia.com for a while, leaving Crisis.superush.com on a three-month-long hiatus.

I got some good photoshopping skills developed in that time, and came back with the vigor to tackle Wordpress. By that time there had been an update, so I iinstalled it. It was great - the problem that had led me to hiatus had been fixed, and I could begin working on Crisis yet again! Soon I had a nice website, complete with layouts, content, and affies. However, I still wanted more. A domain. I needed one, craved for one, and begged for one. Eventually my Dad gave in, saying "if you do well on 5 tests, then I will lend you my credit card to buy a domain. " I was ecstatic! I owned those five tests, teaching them who was the boss, and then it came down to choosing a host!

I had found a good one, but I couldn't sign up because my Dad was away on business. The next day he came back, but was not pleased with what he saw. The host I'd chosen, www.one.com, was based in Denmark, and you had to write a letter to them and mail it there when you wanted to cancel your account. That was a no-no. So, I did some more searching, and remembered my trusty freehostia , which had hosted my very first site, http://taintedphotography.freehostia.com. They had an awesome hosting plan, and my dad and I were eager to get it. We did it, and sure enough, within the next two hours I had my own domain - Dance-electric.net!
